Wealthy medical researcher and Asian art collector, Arthur Sackler, donated $4 million and 1,000 of his finest pieces from Southeast Asia to the Smithsonian Institution. The collection, which includes artefacts from India, China, Thailand and Indonesia, is housed in the Arthur M Sackler Gallery on the National Mall.
